A small, uncomfortable sized room in the northern tower was more than unsatisfactory for any princesses' taste, but it would have to do for this occasion. Two princesses were waiting for their two beloved heroes, Finn and Jake, to bring them some lunch during yet another zombie infestation. Their stomachs growled noisily for what seemed like the hundredth time that evening.
It had been over three hours since their last meal, which was also the last of the food, in this case. With all the sneaking around that would have to be done to retrieve the valuable items would take some time, but at what cost? This left two Princesses that were usually seemingly civilized together, however this would be a problem if they were both to become irritable from the hunger they were feeling.
Of course, this was more than to be expected from the purple, lumpy princess who floated above the ground and disregarded the fact that perhaps she had been bothering the other princess, who was just as hunger, but not as whiney. The first hour was civilized and filled with idle chatter to distract each other from the intense hunger that they were feeling, but it didn't take too long for the two to slip away from their civilized behavior--well, Lumpy Space Princess was never really too civilized, but in this case she had become worse than her usual, gossiping self--and become annoyed at the sounds of each other's stomachs growling and the petty conversation that they were still attempting to hold up.
"Oh my glob," Lumpy Space Princess started with a groan as she touched her purple, puffy stomach, hoping it wouldn't growl louder than it did last time, "Finn and Jake have been gone for over an hour. I'm gonna starve."
"Now, now," Princess Bubblegum said as she ran her slender fingers over her pink, sugary hair, which had not been wash in much too long for her liking, "They said they were coming. We just have to be patient."
"I need to eat now," the purple princess said as she floated across the room to find something that was edible. Nothing was though, except for Princess Bubblegum and right about now that sounded just fine to the lumpy princess.
"Just give them time," The pink haired princess said as she stood to walk across the room. She made the journey only for the fact that she was hoping the sound of her walking would cover yet another growl, but alas it did not. A few of the zombies were crossing the courtyard looking desperately for something to munch on.
Unlike the two living girls, their stomachs didn't make irritating noises, but they were still aware of their hunger. The sugary goodness on their bodies-that had aged, harden, and then cracked open-looked tempting from afar. However, every living person in the Candy Kingdom and further knew better than to attempt to eat the living dead.
One of the bigger zombies-that must have been a slice of millionaire's short cake when it was living-was making its way to the fountain, having seen a lady candy cane zombie, which seemed like it was just his type. She didn't bother giving him the time of day though as she tried to eat a flower that had been growing through the pavement. She spat it out though, finding the taste to be quite horrendous. The man attempted to win her un-beating heart only to receive an apathetic look before she walked away, touching her stomach that would have been growling if it could have been.
Out of despair, the lonely zombie looked into the water, not knowing why he was rejected in all his sugary goodness! He leaned over the fountain to have a better look at himself, but with the weakness of his legs he fell in. It was to Princess Bubblegum's surprise that he melted quickly.
"That's it!" She exclaimed, holding her stomach from a minor hunger pain that felt like someone had stuck a knife or something worse in her side.
"What are you talking about? You're not making any sense," Lumpy Space Princess said in her naively voice as she threw a drawer that she had emptied out her way. In no way, did she actually care, but with there being a mysterious amount of gossip or food she would listen.
"We need to melt the zombies with the water," Princess Bubblegum said, slamming her fist into the palm of her hand and moving across the stone covered floor.
"Tell Finn that," LSP said, "After he brings the food though. I need something before I wither away into nothing!"
"Stop it," Princess Bubblegum said, "This is serious. We cannot sit here while our heroes go in search of food and as princesses we must---" The princess stopped, blushing lightly as her stomach growled loudly, "Excuse me, but as I was saying---"
"I don't care. If Jessica was here she would have something to eat. She always does," Lumpy Space Princess gossiped, not realizing the seriousness of the situation as her fatigue kicked in harder than before, "Maybe that's why she put on so much weight, but she has nicer skin than me, so it's so not far. I guess there is a price to pay for having this lumping awesome body; even if it's hungry."
"Are you finished yet?" The sugary princess asked, attempting to hide her annoyance (but, if she failed this task, she was ready to sell it off as being: her hunger was taking the better side of her).
Lumpy Space Princess did not hide the scorn as she crossed her arms. "I haven't had my mom's sandwiches in, like, forever," She whined as she gave her stomach a squeeze, truly believing this would solve something.
"Please, this is no time to be thinking about food," Princess Bubble stated as she moved a stone out of the ground. It would lead to a tunnel that she had started when she was a child; now that she was older she was glad that she had started it. Her delicate hands began pushing back the multiple pebbles in hopes of finding somethinganythingto help the situation, which was only going from bad to worse.
The purple princess gave approbation as she began to float down from her hunger that was leaving her with a painful numb feeling. She did not appreciate the fact that the sleepover that she was invited to was left unattended; however there seemed to be some sort of hope in it all as the pink princess made a crack to a new room that had been forgotten over the years. This, of course, left her with a feeling of meritorious that would be ignored, which was the least of her concerns as she simulated a feeling of fullness. This seemed like the easiest thing to do at the moment, not wanting to believe she was jaded from a small amount of digging.
"Oh my glob," LPS said, using that hackneyed expression once more, "Why didn't you do this lumping earlier? There might be food in there! Get out my lumping way!" With little hesitance she pushed the other princess out the way, leaving Princess Bubblegum with umbrage.
"Wait," She said, regardless of her feeling of resentment (along with extreme fatigue), "Look before you leap!"
An aplomb feeling washed of Lumpy Space Princess once more as she made the hole bigger with her lumps. To the other princess's satisfaction, she quickly saw her companion transcend in horror.
"There are lumping zombies in there," The purple princess said as she ignored the blaring sound of her stomach, "You set me up."
"That is ridiculous! How was I to know zombies had infested the room?" the sugary princess inquired with a scorn as lassitude hit her body.
"You just lumping knew," Lumpy Space Princess said, surmising the other girl, probably from her hunger and the fact she just had a callow personality.
Princess Bubblegum let out a frustrated sigh, wanted to disregard the fact that she was being yelled at for something she had no control of, and said, "Finn and Jake will be back any moment with our meal and will take care of the zombies, afterwards I will send them on a journey to grab me some of my science equipment."
"Who put you in charge?" Lumpy Space Princess retorted.
"This is my kingdom," PB stated swiftly as she crossed her arms.
"And you're doing a pretty bad job at lumping ruling it!" The purple princess with a star on her head exclaimed as she put a hand on her side, releasing another ferocious growl from her stomach.
Princess Bubblegum frowned as she opened her mouth to say her side of the argument, but was cut off by the sound of fighting outside the door. Her hunger rose as she imagined all the delightful foods that would be brought to her when her heroes finished the battle they were in. So they wouldn't become distracted, she pushed the stone back over the hole in the ground and then pushed the drawer-less dresser over it, and waited.
Both princesses could hear the sound of yelling from Finn as he slashed through the zombies that had broken in to the Northern tower. The sound of cracking sugar was only being mixed with their unbearable hunger only made their situation worse than before. They were so close to having a meal, silencing their stomachs, and ending their fatigue. The very idea of biting into a fruit and licking the juice off the side of her sugary fingers was more than tempting for Princess Bubblegum, who planned on kissing both Finn and Jake when they showed her what they had brought after their long journey.
A loud, obnoxious growl made Lumpy Space Princess feel as if she was going to snap and began banging on the door and yelling for them to hurry before she starved to death after she ate Princess Bubblegum and talked about how she would just be eating calories because the other princess was just sugar after all. While that was an unreasonable argument for her to proclaim, it did work on Finn the human, who began slashing through the undead at an astonishing speed.
Princess Bubblegum's stomach growled once more as she held her head in her soft, sugary hand and wished for the battle to be over soon before she passed out or worse. Lumpy Space Princess's yelling was not helping the situation in the least. With all the pressure, Jake the dog did the simplest thing he knew how and blew up, crushing and pushing their remains out tower, while Finn held tight to his bag that contained the sweet treats in it.
The moment they entered the room they heard Lumpy Space Princess's stomach erupt with a large growl as she searched for the food that they claimed they brought. "Where is the food?" She said, digging through the bag that seemed to have a never ending storage rate.
Finn slid the bag of his back just as Jack shrunk back down to size as he entered the room, just as hungry as the princesses, and locked the heavy door. "Are you ready to chow down, Princesses?" Jake asked as he watched Finn pull out one ice cream sandwich and handed it to Princess Bubblegum, who's stomach growled once more.
She tore off the paper cover, exposing the ice cream and mashed it against her lips. The vanilla ice cream swirled inside her small mouth as she licked up the side, between the sandwich part. It was soft and chewy just as she imagined it being, making the waiting all worth it. The ringing of LSP's complaints didn't bother her as much as she took the final bite and reached for another. The idea of melting the zombies, which would stop the infestation all together, fled her mind as she indulged herself in the sweet tastes that would never taste as sweet as they did in this moment.
